Just days after the fatal Dwarka road accident, another hit-and-run case rocked the national capital earlier today. A 25-year-old delivery executive lost his life after being struck by a speeding car in West Delhi in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred near the Subhash Nagar Metro red light on Najafgarh Road towards Rajouri Garden, when a fast-moving Hyundai Verna driven by a 27-year-old man rammed into the electric scooter being ridden by the delivery boy. The victim was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The victim, identified as Hem Shakar (25), was working as a delivery executive for a quick-commerce company.

Police investigation underway

According to the Delhi Police, a PCR call regarding the accident was received at Tilak Nagar police station at around 3:26 am.

FIR has been registered in the case, and the car has been seized. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Police have arrested the accused driver, identified as Mohit Kumar (27), son of Rajesh Kumar and a resident of Najafgarh. Police added that the accused works as an MCD contractor.

Further investigation is underway.

Eyewitness account

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West District, eyewitnesses present reported that the car allegedly hit the e-scooter from behind.
An eyewitness said, “I was on duty at the petrol pump when I heard a loud noise. The car was being driven at a speed of 150 km/h, and the driver dragged the victim from one corner to another. The victim died. The accused has been detained by the police. If people drink and drive, such kinds of incidents will continue to happen….”


Notably, another fatal road accident was reported in the national capital earlier this month near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka South, where a man was killed after an SUV allegedly driven by a minor collided head-on with a motorcycle.
